The challenge was to create a distinctive sense of place which was achieved through the use of public expression and an emphasis on high quality public realm to create a series of spaces and experiences.
Tower forms were located to allow maximum light and sun into the shopping street and to establish Station Square as a unique and visible landmark for Burnaby.
The plan includes:
- Direct access to a regional transit station;
- ‘Silver Drive’ retail shopping street including grocer, restaurants, cinema, and major retail anchors;
- Office space for 1,500 jobs;
- Five new landmark residential towers creating 2,500 dwelling units; and,
- Green roof amenities including a children’s play area, barbecue, and outdoor dining patio, fitness centre, and yoga studio.
