Meet the CIVITAS Team

Joe Hruda is the founder and President of CIVITAS Urban Design and Planning Inc., a multidisciplinary urban design and planning consulting practice and Principal of CIVITAS Architecture Inc. He is a Harvard University Master of Architecture graduate and a Gold Medal recipient from the University of Manitoba. Joe has over 35 years of design expertise in new large-scale community and mixed-use projects. In Vancouver, Joe was responsible for planning and urban design of theCoal Harbour project on the downtown waterfront. Internationally, Joe’s work in both companies was in many countries including Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Dubai, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and the USA.

Joe was the principal urban design leader for Plan Abu Dhabi 2030, Plan Al Ain 2030, which received a 2009 ISOCARP Award for Excellence; Plan Al Gharbia 2030, and was the master planner for the Abu Dhabi Capital City Master Plan and Federal Precinct, which received the Cityscape Award for the Best Master Plan Community.Joe served on the City of Vancouver Urban Design Panel for three 2-year terms including a year as Chairperson and on Landcom Urban Design Panel in Sydney, Australia.
